Mr Vintage photo shoot November 16, 2011

This work for Mr Vintage rock band has been my first ‘serious’ photo shoot. I used the 35mm f/1.8 G, 85mm f/1.8 D and 18-55mm VR with the Nikon D7000, as well as the Fuji X100 with its fixed 23mm lens.

For the interior shoots, I used a couple of flash units, a 24″x24″ softbox, and a huge white blanket as background. We set this up on a dance school, property of one of the band’s members.

In hindsight, I made lots of mistakes (such as forgetting to shoot in RAW instead of JPEG the first hour or so, ugh!), but I’m very happy with the results and I’ve learned a great deal. The final output was about 30 full-resolution images, although if I were to do this shoot again, I would try to do a smaller number of scenes and focus more on getting the actual poses of each model ‘right’, and pay more attention to the flash ratios outdoors.

  1. And here I thought I had the only X100 in Alicante lol I hadn’t seen anybody with another one until now. Is the first shot at the tram station near the barrio? Dont worry about the RAW to JPEG thing too much, for what its worth bost cameras render JPEGs better than most.

Yes, the first shot was taken looking down from the stairs that lead into the Mercado station :)

The JPEG output from the X100 is lovely indeed, I now don’t bother with RAW for casual shooting, whereas I used to shoot always RAW with my D60.

  3. Well the shot looks really good, to be honest I havent bothered with RAW in such a long time… I mean I know how it gives you the flexibility to put out better IQ but dont get me wrong I love photography but I hate touching up pictures after lol.
